For years, we’ve argued about the same question:
Is growth about penetration and availability? Or about meaning and differentiation?
It was the wrong argument. The real issue is not Sharp versus brand builders. The real issue is that both models were built for an Attention Economy. And that economy is ending. We are moving from broadcast brands to operating system brands. Or more simply: From Celebrity to Concierge.
The Celebrity Brand (Broadcast Logic)
In the Attention Economy, brands behaved like celebrities. They broadcast messages.
- They maximized reach.
- They optimized salience.
- They showed up everywhere.
This made sense.
When media was mass. When shelves drove discovery. When demand signals were weak. In that world: Mental availability + physical availability = growth. And that logic still matters. But it is no longer sufficient.
The Concierge Brand (Operating System Logic)
In the Intent Economy, brands must act differently. Not louder. BUT Smarter. A Concierge brand does not simply broadcast. It functions like an operating system. It:
- Interprets demand signals
- Aligns with specific moments
- Routes consumers to the right solution
- Learns from interaction
- Reallocates resources dynamically
This is not about tone of voice. It is about architecture.
- Demand logic.
- Portfolio structure.
- Willingness to pay discipline.
- AI orchestration.
- Closed-loop economic profit compounding.
A Concierge brand is embedded in the moment. A Celebrity brand hopes to be remembered.
This Is Not Anti-Penetration
Mental availability remains necessary. Kotler and others have said this long before Sharp. But in an AI-mediated world, being remembered is not enough. You must be structurally aligned with intent when the decision happens. Salience gets you considered. Relevance in context gets you chosen. Architecture determines whether that choice compounds into economic profit.
The Strategic Question
Is your brand still operating like a broadcaster? Or is it becoming an operating system? Because in the next era, the brands that win will not be the loudest. They will be the ones that:
- Own the right demand spaces
- Design portfolio logic around moments
- Use AI as infrastructure, not decoration
- And compound economic profit CEP) through learning loops
Celebrity brands compete for attention. Concierge brands design structural relevance. The future belongs to operating systems.
